April is just around the corner and that means Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I got my Action Kit in the mail and I’m ready to raise awareness on Sexual Assault AND Active Consent.
I ASK . . .
I think this year’s SAAM theme is very important to inform people what consent is. When I was sexually assaulted I didn’t realize it at the time because I wasn’t taught what exactly consent was.
I was groomed. My abuser was good at what he did. He obviously had experience. He convinced me that I wanted to have sex. That I owed him. He never ever said it in those words but that’s what he did. I owed him. I thought I loved him. So I went along when he wanted to have sex. It was my first time. I didn’t say no, but It was not what I wanted either. He didn’t ask. I didn’t consent. He just… entered me. and I let him. Because I thought that was the only way to respond.
Active consent is so important for everyone to know what it is.
Stay tuned as I continue to gear up for #SAAM and continue to speak MY TRUTH and raise awareness.!
