May is Mental Health Awareness Month as well as Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Month. I struggle with both.
⚠️ Potential Trigger Warning ⚠️
My BPD was once thought to be a death sentence. I was told that I probably wouldn’t get better. My first time in a psych facility I got a lot of help and was treated with a lot of respect.
Unfortunately I was a “repeat offender” and was in and out of psych hospitals. Because of the stigma of BPD, I was even refused to be allowed back in one facility. The one that let me be admitted many times came with a heavy price.
While trying to get help, I was treated poorly. Hopeless, attention seeking. There were times I wanted to end my life in the very place that was supposed to help me.
Despite all this… I had something many others don’t… support. From my therapy team, to my family and friends. Having a good support team combined with my resilient attitude I was able to fight for my life and beat the death sentence.
The girl who was thought to have no hope, did what she always does, prove them wrong!
I’ll always have my struggles but medication and my DBT skills have saved my life.
I may not be able to work full time but I kick butt with what I can do!!
To all my friends that also struggle… keep on fighting! You aren’t alone!
